We live in Broussard, Louisiana, the heart of Cajun country. We have owned and operated a consulting engineering firm for 30 years. A major part of our business is metallurgical analysis. This involves laboratory photography with 35 mm cameras and photography with a metallurgical microscope at magnifications of 50x to 2000x.
We have a son and daughter and four grandchildren. Also, we have a 72 pound standard poodle named Elvis.
On a recent vacation to Florida, a close friend of ours, Lieutenant Matthew Carnal, Aerospace & Operational Physiologist, introduced us to wildlife photography. We became fascinated with what we have seen in nature as viewed through macro and telephoto camera lenses. We began our journey of nature photography in May 2023 on our 51-year wedding anniversary. Relatively speaking with regards to nature photography we are “fledglings.” When people ask us how long with have been doing nature photography, we look at our watch and reply “about 30 minutes.”
To date, our camera lens has taken us to Colorado, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. Viewing nature in our travels has provided us many interesting life perspectives.
While out on locations shooting, we have made new friends in the world of wildlife and nature photography. A number of very knowledgeable photographers have shared wildlife locations and provided guidance regarding the art and science of photography.
Debbie’s interests include photographing wildlife and scenery with distinctive compositions on land and from our tandem kayak. Long before taking up nature photography, Debbie has enjoyed wilderness hiking, and biking. Steve’s interests include photographing birds in flight, and he enjoys the technical aspects of cameras and lenses. Steve enjoys open water swimming, wilderness hiking, and biking. While open water swimming he often sees many types of birds and animals along the shoreline including ospreys, eagles, pelicans, rabbits, and deer.
We are excited to see where this journey will take us. We invite you to join us as we document our journey through our photographs and future blog.
