Martial Broussard (Call Sign “Boots”)

Each month we will present short articles on interesting photographers we have met on various outdoor locations.

In June 2023 at Jefferson Island (near New Iberia, LA), we met a very experienced/accomplished photographer. His name is Martial Broussard (call sign “Boots”).  Almost weekly he advises us on many different aspects of nature photography. Also, we have been on several bird shoots with him. We learned that Martial was in the Air Force and flew Phantom F4 fighter jets.   Martial has become a very close family friend and has shared his precious experience and many of his beautiful photographs with us!  We are very appreciative of Martial’s friendship and guidance.

One interesting common thread is Martial (CAPTAIN. MARTIAL BROUSSARD JUNE 1972, Udorn RTAFB), our friend Lieutenant Matthew Carnal, Aerospace & Operational Physiologist, and I (Steve) all have a keen interest in flying airplanes and a dedicated interest in photographing flying birds. in 1971 I earned my civilian pilots license (single engine land). My very first passenger was Debbie! our first flight was along the beach in Corpus Christi, Texas. Also, recently Debbie and I met a commercial pilot at the LSU Lakes that also enjoys photographing birds.

On July 6, 2024, Martial photographed Wood Storks and Great Egrets at PJF Farm near Ville Platte, Louisiana. A number of his images are presented below.

Martial captured a fast flying Intruder Egret near the on looking Wood Stork.
